HOW TO CALCULATE SIZE AND CAPACITY OF WATER TANK: Water tank is most crucial part for any kind of structure whether it is a residential project or commercial project, because as we all know water is our most important need so to store desired quantity of water we need a proper size water tank. If you are a civil engineer or civil engineering student and don’t know HOW TO CALCULATE SIZE AND CAPACITY OF WATER TANK then you are at right place we will help you to learn very simply .
HOW TO CALCULATE SIZE AND CAPACITY OF WATER TANK
We have divided calculation into two parts so you can understand it easily.
How to Calculate Per Capita Demand of Water Per Day
As per Indian Standard Code 135 liters of is required per day or in technical words we can say 135 liters water is required per capita per day. These 135 liters can be used in different usage which is given below-
1. 5 liters is required for cooking.
2. 5 liters is required for drinking.
3. 85 liters is required for bathing and toilet.
4. 10 liters is required for house cleaning.
5. 30 liters is required for kitchen and washing of clothes.
This per capita requirement is an average data provided by Indian Standard Code this may b increase or decrease based on usage, climatic conditions and geographical conditions.
HOW TO CALCULATE SIZE AND CAPACITY OF WATER TANK ( Calculations)
For a 5 member family
Each member required 135 liters water as per Indian Standard Code on an average
So Quantity Required By 5 People=135x5 =675 liters
We know that 1 m3 =1000 liters
And Similarly 1 liter= .001 m3
We need 675 liters water for this family per day
So (675x.001) = 0.675 m3
Let’s suppose depth of water tank is 0.70 m3
The area if the Tank becomes 0.675/0.70
Which is equal to the 0.94 m2
You can put values in the above given formula if we know any one above given dimension.
Note: We will consider length as 2 times of breadth
So (L =2B)
But 2 times of breadth multiply by one time of breadth is equal to 0.96 m2
(B=0.96 m2)
So B2 is equal to 0.48
(B2= 0.48)
But also B is equal to 0.657 (B=0.675)
So therefore Length is equal to 2 multiply by 0.675 which is equal to 1.35m (2 x 0.675= 1.34 m)
The water tank size of 540 liters will be.
Length will be equal to 1.34 m ( L=1.35 m )
And Depth of the tank is equal to 0.6 ( D =0.6m )
Breadth of the tank is equal to 0.67 m ( B=0.675m )
Conclusion:
You can easily find size and capacity of the tank as per your daily requirement of the water with the help of above method.
